Five Books Worth Your Time.
The Queen of Spade
A historical thriller loosely based off of Queen Victoria's goddaughter, Sara Forbes Bonetta. While the book isn't a self-published/small-business published book, I was knew on page one that I'd be in for a ride. As a lover of historical dramas in both cinema and literature, this book is a journey that keeps you engaged the entire way.
Dear Little Me: A Garden of Seeds
This book was what little me needed to hear. Written by Mica Lapri Williams, I feel every piece of her heart reaching out to all little girls with what they may, or may not, need to be told. Inspirational and affirmational, it sits on our coffee table as a reminder to anyone that needs it (including me).
Powerful Prayers & Affirmations for Black Teen Girls
The subtitle reads "For Confidence, Self-Worth, Strength, and Faith", and its true. Alicia Sher has written 50 chapters of Scripture w/ relfections that lift up Black girls while being tied to sound doctrine without being overbearing. My favorite chapter is "Prayer 46: Loving Others Without Losing Myself". This is something that, generationally, we are just now coming to terms with NOT forgetting. Great gift to the Black teen in your life.
Love Your Neighbor
A great book for parents and caregivers that want to pour into bringing up thoughful, considerate, and respectful children. I'm a proponent of UNDERSTANDING difference, not just embracing them. The books breaks it down in the simplest terms how to respect your neighbor and treat others like you would want to be treated. Another coffee table book.
The Unveiled Heart: 5 Essential Postures That Reveal Your Heart...
Don't let the long subtitle fool you. This book is THEE truth. Consider it a polite read on your heart from a loving auntie that's always cared and you always told everything to. It actually got uncomfortable for me so I had to put it down at time because it was almost an "I need a minute before I keep reading" pause. However, it reads as such to make the reader better and thing inwardly about motivation. A must-read, especially for Black mothers like myself.
